Abstract

848,012. Shoe linings. SHARPE, A. J. Aug. 11, 1958 [May 9, 1957],No. 11491/57. Class 17(2) A shoe having its forepart unlined or provided with a stuck-on lining 15 has a stiffener supporting lining 16 extending around the heelward end of the shoe and attached to the forepart of the upper by butt joints 17. Lining 16 may be in one piece, or in two pieces joined along the back seam. The quarters 14 overlap the ends of the forepart and terminate in finished edges 19. Preferably the lining 16 and the foreparts of the shoe are of comparable thickness at the joints 17. In a preferred procedure a strip of tape with adhesive on both faces but with the outer face covered by a protective strip, is secured to the outer face of the lining 16 which is then attached by butt joints and zig-zag stitching to the skived edge of the vamp. The connected quarters are then fitted around the lining 16 to overlap the vamp and are joined to the vamp by stitching. The protective strip is then removed and the lining 16 attached to the quarters by the adhesive strip. A heel stiffener is inserted between the quarters 14 and lining 16.
