Abstract

842,507. Cooling cement clinkers &c. FULLER CO. Feb. 28, 1958 [April 9, 1957], No. 6586/58. Class 51 (2). A heat-exchange apparatus for cooling a bed of discrete particles of material, e.g. cement clinker, comprises a chamber 1 with an inlet 5, an outlet at the opposite end and a horizontal series of overlapping alternately stationary and movable grates 7, 8 upon which the clinker rests. The forward portion of each grate is forwardly and upwardly inclined relative to the rear portion and the forward portion of each movable grate 8 is reciprocally moved over the rear portion of the next forward stationary grate 7 whereby the material thereon will be engaged and will be pushed forwardly and upwardly along the inclined portion of the grate 7 and spill over the forward end on to the next forward movable grate. The material is thus moved step-wise along the series of grates to the discharge outlet, the grates having apertures extending therethrough for the passage of cooling air to the clinker from compartments forming a plenum chamber 3 below the grates. The air after passing through the clinker leaves the cooling grates and passes over a sieve 46, the fines entering a pit 48 and the larger particles a clinker breaker 49. A conveyer 54 below the grates carries fines which have passed through the grates to the pit 48. Specification 519,018 is referred to.
