Abstract

842,024. Thermal regenerators. THRING, M. W. July 16, 1958 [April 17, 1957], No. 12491/57. Class 64(1) [Also in Group XXVIII] Recovery of the heat content of hot, dust and fume-laden waste gas discharged from a furnace 1, Fig. 1, through one or other of a pair of checker regenerators 3 is effected by passing it through a filter bed 4 of ceramic granular material, e.g. firebrick, dolomite or limestone and a reversing valve 5 to a stack 6 and thereafter passing combustion air through the filter bed and regenerator whilst hot waste gas traverses the other regenerator and a second filter head in series therewith. The filter bed grains are in the size range 1/16 to 1/4 inch and as shown in Fig. 7 are supported in a stack of gratings 46 slidably removable from a housing 44 having an inlet 42 from the checker regenerator and an outlet 48 to the reversing valve. In a further modification the bed comprises a conical grating continuously supplied with granular material from a hopper and from which the grains fall into a collecting trough.
