An apparatus for winding cross-wound bobbins comprises a carrier d for a yarn supply package e<SP>1</SP>, a spindle a adapted to receive a bobbin b to be wound, the spindle and the bobbin being co-axially mounted for rotation substantially within the supply package e<SP>1</SP>, a guide ring p mounted concentrically on the package and a cylindrical guide member d<SP>11</SP> mounted on the carrier concentrically withrespect to the bobbin, the guide member d1 having the form of a cylindric ungula with the oblique end adjacent the bobbin, whereby the point of contact of the yarn on the oblique end of the guide member and the point of take-off of the yarn from the supply package run concentrically with respect to one another. Preferably the bobbin or the guide member is movable axially during the winding.
