Abstract
841,559. Feeding fibres. BRITISH COTTON INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Nov. 28, 1956 [Sept. 13, 1955], No. 26136/55. Class 120(1). [Also in Group XXX] Feeding apparatus for cotton &c. comprises a hopper-like discharge compartment 11 wherein a plate 12 reciprocates to compact the material, plate 12 extending from side to side of hopper 11 and moving so that on its downward feeding stroke its edge traverses a substantial part of the width of the hopper and thereby compacts the material, whilst on its return stroke it is brought to lie adjacent the wall 11a of the hopper to reduce interference with the progress of the material. As shown, wall 11a is provided with a central transverse slit through which plate 12 extends, and the plate is reciprocated by cranks 17a and connecting rods 14. During one reciprocation, plate 12 moves successively through the positions a to h, Fig. 3. The lower edge of plate 12 is turned over to increase its compacting action. Material is discharged from the bottom of compartment 11 on to a conveyer 25 by one or more rollers 26. The lower part of the rear wall of compartment 11 may be adjustable in position, or it may be reciprocated in synchronism with plate 12 to increase the compacting effect.
