Abstract

Fibrous material, such as straw to be fed to a machine producing fibre board or like material, is treated prior to entering such a machine by passing it through a teasing device followed by an open-ended perforated drum rotatable about an axis inclined to the horizontal. The teasing device may consist of a pair of parallel vertical shafts 7 provided with radial prongs or projections 8, the shafts being so mounted that their distance apart can be varied. Fibrous material may enter the teasing device in hale form and pass from it directly into the drum 11 which has a portion 12 perforated to allow separation of dust which falls onto a conveyor 14. Whilst passing through the cylinder the fibrous material adopts a rope-like formation in which it is discharged along an oscillatory feed shoot 15 to a machine hopper.
