Abstract

1,113,025. Tearing machine. R. LAROCHE. 3 Feb., 1966 [4 Feb., 1965; 10 Dec., 1965], No. 4776/66. Heading DIN. A rag tearing machine wherein rags or other fibrous material are presented to a spiked or toothed cylinder 4 by a feed arrangement comprises a curved, adjustable member 32 adjacent the cylinder and preferably pivoted about an axis 33 adjacent the feed device, the member_minimising air currents and allowing waste and unteared rag to fall between member 32 and a further adjustable member 29, while the teared fibres are carried on the surface of the cylinder inside the member 29. The waste .and unteared rag falls onto a conveyor (10) Fig. 1, not shown, to be. carried to two or more revolving drums (12, 13) having jagged or indented angle-irons or beaters, or rods; the second drum rotating more quickly than the first. The foreign bodies fall and pass through grills, grids, perforated aprons or adjustably spaced bars (14, 15) while the rags pass onto a conveyor (19) to be returned to conveyor (1) and re-fed to the tearing cylinder. The teared fibres are drawn to a plate (6) by the suction created by a revolving perforated suction roller (8), over the roller (8) and onto a delivery conveyor (9). The apparatus for presenting the rags to the tearing cylinder may comprise any known feeding mechanism but, preferably is a curved plate 2 and a roller 3 which is rubber covered, fluted or provided with rubber rings or collars. Alternatively plate 2 is replaced by a number of adjacent plates or by pedals. A window is provided so. that member 32 can be observed and adjusted while the machine is running.
