Abstract

1278242 Hopper and plunger machines STRAMIT Ltd 5 Sept 1969 [13 Sept 1968] 43615/68 Heading B5A In a machine in which strawboard or the like is made by forcing successive charges from a hopper 13 through a channel between plates 10 and 11 by means of a reciprocating ram 14, the leading edge of the ram is provided with forwardly projecting pointed rods 15. The rods form ducts in the finished board. The leading edge of the ram is preferably in the shape of a shallow V, the apex leading, and the forward ends of the rods terminate in the same transverse plane (see Fig. 2, not shown). During the first part of the ram stroke the rods push through the loose straw fed from the hopper on to the surface of plate 10, during the next part the rods enter the holes made in the previously compressed straw, and during the final part the loose straw is compacted into the space between the plates.
