1,212,314. Metal feeds; consolidating scrap. LINDEMANN MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. 11 April, 1969 [24 April, 1968], No. 18806/69. Headings B3H and B3W. Scrap compressed into a bale in a bed 9 by a side pusher 11 is fed to a shear including a blade reciprocated by ram 3 by a plunger 22 adjustable in width for feeding scrap bales or different widths. As shown, Fig. 8, either or both of two plungers 22, 30 driven by respective piston and cylinder devices 25, 31 may be used. To form a bale of width v, which will be fed by the plunger 30 alone, a spacer 32 of the same size as the plunger 22 is inserted in the bed 9 during the compression stroke of the side pusher 10. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), a detachable plunger strip (23) is screwed to the main plunger and a single piston and cylinder device drives the combined plunger unit. The side pusher 10 is reciprocated by an hydraulic ram 11, the stroke of which is controlled by a lever system 33-35, with or without a detachable stop 36, to vary the width of the bale formed. A cover 15 hinged to the wall 14 opposite the pusher 10 is pivoted by means of an hydraulic ram 16.
