Abstract

The scrap is compressed in a box provided with two stationary walls. Part of wall is formed by two rams, which can be driven together by a work cylinder when a long bale of scrap is required; but only one ram is used when a short bale is being made. Wall has a pivot for a cover plate forced downwards by another work cylinder to compress the scrap against the bed of the box. Opposite wall is a ram driven by another work cylinder determining the width of the bales. The overall result is that either large or small bales can be made, and then fed through shears. For example, bales 1.2 metres or 0.6 metres wide can be obtd.
