Abstract

969,330. Baling presses. FAWCETT PRESTON & CO. Ltd. Jan. 18, 1961 [Jan. 18, 1960], No. 1802/60. Heading B5F. In a baling press material is first introduced e.g. by a weigh-hopper, into a preparing chamber 3a and is then forced downwards by an hydraulic ram 3 to compress it into a first compression chamber 5A, the ram 3 remaining in its lowermost position to form an upper wall of chamber 5A. A second ram 6 then moves horizontally to finally compress the material into a chamber 5B against a sliding gate member 4. The ram 6 is slightly withdrawn and the gate 4 is slid back, the ram 6 then being advanced again to push the bale into a holding chamber 7. Both rams 3, 6 are finally withdrawn and the gate 4 closed in readiness for the next cycle of the press. In the next cycle the bale in the holding chamber 7 is pushed out of the machine by the next advancing bale.
