Abstract

946,924. Baling-machines. E. TRABAND. April 29, 1960, No. 15088/60. Heading B5F. A baling press, Fig. 2, has a compression head 7 operated by jacks 6, the head 7 and the jacks 6 being coupled to direction controlling means 11 such that when the pistons 8 are advanced the jacks 6 are restrained against rearward movement and the head 7 is advanced, and such that when the pistons 8 are retracted the head 7 is restrained against rearward movement and the jacks 6 are advanced. Waste material such as paper, textile fibres, shavings or the like can thus be compressed in stages as the jacks 6 and head 7 move successively towards the end of the baling chamber. The direction controlling means may be racks 11, Fig. 6, formed with recesses into which stops 10 from the head 7 and the jack 6 extend, the stops being bevelled or chamfered on one face so that when pushed in the baling direction they rise out of the recesses against spring means 12 to permit movement and when pushed in the opposite direction they remain in the recesses to prevent movement. To permit the head 7 and jacks 6 to be returned to their origin the stops 10 are raised by a compressed air system. The head 7, and side walls and base of the baling chamber, are grooved to accommodate binding material. The baling chamber may have a pivoted end door 3, held shut by a clamp 14, and pivoted top covers 15, 16, 17. The base is held in position by cam means, Fig. 9 (not shown), that can be rotated to release the base. The side walls 2 may be mounted on vertical pivots so that when the side, top and bottom walls are opened the compressed material can be held between the head 7 and a fixed opposite wall 19 (instead of the door 3) to permit the compressed material to be wrapped.
