Abstract

815,445. Baling-presses. FIELDING & PLATT Ltd., ROWLES, D. V., and MADELEY R. Sept. 30, 1957 [Nov. 19, 1956], No. 35363/56. Class 94(1). Scrap metal is fed into a quadrant-shaped cavity 6 at the side of a baling chamber and forced into the chamber by the end face 16 of a quadrant-shaped member 17 which is pivoted on a vertical axis 18 and actuated by a hydraulic ram 19, the face 16 forming part of the side wall of the chamber during two subsequent compression of the scrap metal by a hydraulic ram 8. The press is located in a pit having a cover plate 4 provided with a hopper 5 communicating with the cavity 6. The ceiling 13 of the baling chamber is formed with teeth 14 which co-operate with a blade (not shown) on the member 17 to shear off surplus material. The end of the baling chamber is formed by a hinged door 10 which is opened to allow discharge of the bale on to a conveyer 22.
