Abstract

1313569 Baling machines AMERICAN HOIST & DERRICH CO 22 April 1970 58504/70 Heading B5F Apparatus for baling paper, cardboard &c. comprises a ram 40 for compressing the material in a compression chamber 30, a transfer ram 74 for intermittently and repeatedly moving the material in a direction perpendicular to the compressing direction, and means 90 for strapping the material when the transfer ram is stationary. Material to be baled is fed through a hopper 24 to a gathered chamber 12 in which the head 46 of the compression ram reciprocates. When the head 46 is in its compressing position material supplied through the hopper 24 rests on a cover-plate 50 extending rearwardly from the head 46. A shear blade 52 on the ram head 46 co-operates with a fixed knife 58. The transfer ram 74 has a piston-rod 80 carrying a transfer head 82 provided with a skirt 84 to prevent paper &c. accumulating behind the head 82. The strapping apparatus 90 includes a rectangular shaped track 92 through which the strap 226 passes during tying. The strap is fed from a coil 98 by feeding apparatus (96), Fig. 6 (not shown), and drive wheels 94. Figs. 8, 9A and 9B (not shown) show hydraulic and electric circuits for automatic operation of the baling and strapping apparatus. (For Figures see next page)
