839,496. Spinning and finishing yarns. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E.I. Sept. 16, 1957 [Sept. 21, 1956], No. 29098/57. Addition to 732,929. Class 120(3) In the preparation of stable bulky yarns having convolutions along the length of individual constituent filaments by application of a turbulent gas stream according to the parent Specification, synthetic hydrophobic filaments e.g. of nylon, polyethylene terephthalate, acrylonitrile (co)- polymers, vinyl and vinylidene (co)-polymers, which may be in the form of a bundle having low (less than three turns per inch) or no twist, are moistened (as by wick application) with an inert liquid e.g. water (to which surface agents, lubricants or size may be added) or hydroxylated non-solvents such as (tri)-ethylene glycol and 2-ethyl-hexanediol-1, 3, before or during subjection to the gas stream. The preparation may be effected in combination with normal operations such as drafting, twisting, spooling, coning, and may be followed by additional twisting.
