Abstract

Viscose rayon staple fibres with a high degree of crimping are made by spinning unripe viscose into a spinning bath having a temperature of 65 DEG to 70 DEG C. and containing sodium sulphate, zinc sulphate and not more than 110 grams per litre of sulphuric acid, the sodium sulphate content being such that the spinning bath has a specific gravity of at least 1.3 at 43 DEG C., stretching the threads in an intermediate bath containing sulphuric acid, cutting the threads into staple lengths and then decomposing them in a hot, acid bath. Examples are given.
