Abstract

A process for the manufacture of cut fibers of regenerated cellulose, comprising the conversion treatment of alkali-cellulose in high viscosity viscose, spinning the viscose, with a high index γ, in a spinning bath of a temperature not higher than 30º C and containing dilute sulfuric acid and sodium sulfate, drawing the yarns or bundles of freshly spun yarns, and cutting the stretched yarns or bundles of yarns into cut fibers; characterized in that a viscose prepared from alkali-cellulose xanthanised by the use of not more than 40% by weight of carbon disulfide (based on alkali-cellulose cellulose); and wherein the weight percent ratio of total alkali (expressed as sodium hydroxide) to the weight percentage of cellulose is greater than 0.65; and to which at least one hour before starting the spinning process is added such a quantity of carbon disulfide that, upon the spinning process, the viscose has an index γ from 60 to 82; is spun through a spinneret and passed to a spin bath from 15º to 30º C, containing from 5.3% to 7.5% by weight of sulfuric acid, from 12% to 16% by weight of sodium sulfate and from 2% to 5% by weight of zinc sulfate; and wherein the weight percentage of sulfuric acid is 0.5 to 1.0 greater than the weight percent of total alkali (expressed as sodium hydroxide); and the yarns or bundles of freshly spun yarns are stretched such that, expressed numerically, the stretch ratio is equal to 2a-5b-c + 100 ± 3, being to the index γ of the viscose during the spinning process, b the sum of the percentages by weight of sodium sulfate and zinc sulfate in the spin bath, and c the temperature of the spin bath inº C, and the stretch percentage being in any case between 110% and 162%.
