Abstract
A method of manufacturing filaments, fibers, wiring, films, and other similar articles of regenerated cellulose having a high tenacity, both in the conditioned and wet state, good dimensional stability, high modulus of elasticity in the wet state and a swelling less than 55 per 100, which consists essentially of spinning a viscose of high viscosity having a high range index, and containing a high GP cellulose, in a bath of low acid content, in the presence of an aldehyde and is characterized by the following extremes considerable together or separately. a) A viscose containing a cellulose whose GP is equal to at least 500 is used. b) The viscosity of the viscose is at least 150 poises. c) The range index of the viscose is between 45 and 100, preferably between 55 and 90. d) It is added to the viscose of 40 grams per kilogram of an aldehyde. e) The viscose is spun in a first bath containing less than 60 grams, preferably 8 to 40 grams per liter of sulfuric acid; from -10 to 120 grams per liter of sodium sulphate and containing little or no zinc sulphate (less than 1%), then spinning the viscose in a second hot regeneration bath. f) One to 40 grams per liter of an aldehyde is added to the first bath. g) The aldehyde used is formaldehyde. h) The filaments are stretched at least 100 percent, preferably 200 percent, at least in the first bath and (or) in the second or between the two baths. i) In the case of a rayon spinning, the yarn is preferably collected on bobbins. j) In the case of a fiber spinning, the wick is preferably fixed in a third hot bath, especially after cutting.
