Class 120(2) In a thread winding machine, the portion of thread extending between the supply cap k and the first guide element c<SP>1</SP> in its path is passed through a thread confining member F, formed by a tube or by axially spaced rings, the axis of which is coincident with an extension of the cap axis n-m. The member F is preferably formed with a lead-in arm 2 leading to a thread entering slot, is preferably reversibly mounted, and may be of polygonal cross-section.
