Abstract

839,301. Arc-rupturing in switches. ALLISCHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 26, 1958 [Aug. 30, 1957], No. 27394/58. Class 38 (5). A circuit-breaker generally similar to that described in Specification 754,726 has an arcchute 26 comprising arc runners 30, 31, whose lower ends partially embrace blow-out coils 28, 29 and whose vertical sides form the inner walls of exhaust vents 63, 64. Each runner has apertures 65 whereby metallic vapours generated by the arc terminals are immediately exhausted into the vents. The runner may have a central longitudinal rib to guide the arc terminal, Fig. 4 (not shown), while in a further modification the apertures 65 are replaced by one or more vertical slots arranged in any desired configuration, Fig. 5 (not shown).
