Abstract

837,598. Combustion chambers. KRUG, H. June 6, 1956 [July 11, 1955], No. 27387/59. Divided out of 837,597. Class 7(3) Fuel is injected immediately on to the wall of an annular combustion chamber 2, Fig. 1, from an injector 6 opposite a raised central portion 4, the fuel being vaporized by a tangential swirl set up in the chamber by the action of co-operating surfaces 11, 12, on the piston and cylinder head. The projection 4 may have recesses to permit the fuel jets to approach the chamber wall tangentially. In Fig. 3 the fuel is delivered through passages 118 in the central projection 104 of a combustion chamber in the cylinder heat, the head 116 of the projection entering a corresponding recess 117 in the piston at top dead centre. The fuel jets may be directed axially and may be deflected from the radial direction by an initial swirl about the cylinder axis in the air in the combustion space.
