Abstract

837,260. Combustion chamber linings. FRASER, R. P., and WOOSNAM, M. S. July 4, 1958, No. 21592/58. Class 51 (1). Interlocking refractory tiles A, B, C, D, lining the conical metal walls 1, 2 of a combustion chamber such as that described in Specification 703,914, are held in place by hollow bolts 9 serving as inlets for air or gas into the combustion chamber from the casing 11. Holes 12 may be formed in the metal walls 1, 2 to allow air or gas to seep into the chamber between the tiles to have a cooling effect. Each tile, Fig. 2, is appropriately curved and is in the shape of three displaced layers so that grooves 7, 7<SP>1</SP> are formed along two adjacent edges which tongues 6, 6<SP>1</SP> are formed along the other two adjacent edges. Some of the tiles have countersunk holes 8 to receive the hollow bolts 9 with the bolt heads below the surface of the tile.
