Abstract

647,302. Furnace walls. PEREGRINE, E. P., SUTHERLAND, W. R., BELL, G. R., and PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION. May 14, 1948, No. 13316. [Classes 51 (i) and 51(ii)] ] Linings for the combustion chambers of gas turbines and boilers, parts of furnaces and hot air ducts comprise bricks 3 each formed with a recess 6 and each removably secured to a wall 2, leaving an air space 5 and also a clearance all round each brick, by means of a screw 8 coacting with a nut member 7 secured in said recess 6. Expansion between the metallic inset and the brick is allowed for by flexible tongues 9 formed with screw threads at 14 to which a thin layer of refractory cement is applied and the screws 8 are locked to securing strips 11 by tab washers 10. Modified nut members are formed at the base with either a conical disc seating in re-entrant grooves cut in the recesses or with flexible fingers embedded in refractory cement in said recesses, or instead of the flexible tongues 9 the lower wider part of said nut members is formed with axial holes with an axial annular projection at the base.
