Abstract

837,190. Mechanical presses. SCHOSTAL S. A. Aug. 27, 1958 [Sept. 13, 1957], No. 27474/58. Class 87(2). [Also in Groups XXII, XXIV and XXXIV]. A mechanical press has its slide block 2 driven through a connecting rod 5 by a crank shaft 3 to which is secured a plate 22, Fig. 2, carrying rotatably mounted planet gears 20 meshing with a stationary outer gear ring 23 and with a central driving pinion 17. The latter is connected to a clutch plate 15 working between driving plates 10, 12 biased apart by springs 14 and pulled into clutch-engaged position by an electro-magnet 11, carried by the main driving pulley 9. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, the driving plate 33 is actuated by pressure fluid acting on a diaphragm 32. Alternatively a mechanically actuated clutch may be used. The opposite end of the crank shaft 3.carries a braking disc 62, Fig. 10, working between non-roatry plates 65, 66, biased together by springs 73, Fig. 9 (not shown), and pulled apart by pressure fluid admitted to chambers 82 and acting on movable plates 74, 75, connected by pins 83 to the respective plates 65, 66. The press slide 2 may carry detachable guides 29 and is coupled to its connecting rod 5 by an eccentrically mounted gudgeon pin 6 which is rotatable by a worm 26 for varying the stroke position of the slide. An ejector rod 8 of variable stroke operates through the press table 7.
