[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] Presses for stamping &c. have the driving gear mounted below the table carrying the work, the press-head 8 being operated in guides 1, 2 above the table by connections to a cross-head 6 also sliding in the guides and connected by rods 10 contained within the guides to eccentrics 12 overhung on the ends of a shaft supported in a strong central bearing 11 carried by reinforcing ribs 4 below the table 3. The eccentrics are formed integrally with driving gears 13 meshing with gears 12 on a motor-driven shaft carrying clutch and fly-wheel. The connection between the head 8 and cross-head 6 gives stroke adjustment by a screw 7. The eccentrics may be adjustably connected to the gears 13. The base 5 has a sheet metal cover (not shown) to enclose the gearing and prevent the operator from coming into contact therewith. The table 3 has the shape of a double-T and the feet of the upright are provided with members 21 that fit into the recesses 20, through which the eccentric rods pass. When strip stock is to be fed across the press in the direction of the arrow 24, Fig. 1, openings are provided in the guides 1, 2 and in the rods 10 to permit such passage. The distance between the upright is determined by an interposed block 36 and they are braced above by a cross strip 23, that may carry a boss 28 in which a pin 29 is rotatably clamped at 28<1>. This pin has an eccentric head 30 with conical extensions 31. A lever 33 pivoted at 34 in the press-head 8 engages a spring-controlled ejector rod 35 and carries a roller 32 engaging the parts 30, 31. The timing of the ejector action is adjusted by moving the pin 29 axially and the throw is controlled by rotating the pin.
