Abstract
837,082. Valves. PHILLIPS, R. R. Aug. 5, 1958, No. 25022/58. Class 135. Pressurized gas in a container F, Fig. 1, is released through a manually operable step valve O at a predetermined lower pressure controlled by a reducing and regulating valve V. The valve O comprises a casing 8 the wall 16 of which has an orifice 17 which communicates with the interior of the container F and is controlled by a closure member 23 carried by a hollow screwed stem 4 to the outer end of which the valve V is attached. The valve O has an actuating bail 3. The valve V comprises a shell 44 screwed to a body 40 screwed to the stem 4. The body 40 has aligned passages 45, 46 leading to an inlet chamber 47. The passage 46 is controlled by a closure member 54 on the stem 53 of a piston 59 movable in the shell 44. The chamber 47 communicates with an outlet and is connected via passages 64, 65 with a pressure chamber 62 defined by the piston 59 and a piston-like member 63 in the shell 44. A spring 52 loads the piston 59 to bias the closure member 54 away from the passage 46 and is opposed by a spring 66 and the pressure in the chamber 62. The member 63 is positionally adjustable by a screwed spindle 70 to determine the loading of the spring 66 and so determine the regulated pressure in the chamber 47 which is connected to a pressure gauge. The piston stem 53, the piston 59 and the member 63 have annular sealing rings. The valve V may be arranged at right angles to the valve O in which case an adapter connects one to the other.
