Abstract

829,560. Valves. DURABLE MANUFACTURING CO. March 9, 1956, No. 7492/56. Class 135. A valve for compressible fluids comprises a valve disc in the form of a rigid dished plate 22 reciprocable toward and away from a seat member 15 carried by a housing or body member 10, the valve disc having a central portion of substantially parabolic longitudinal cross-section and having a circular transverse crosssection at any point on the longitudinal axis of the disc. The edge portion 41 which co-operates with the inner edge 42 of the seat member is of conical formation. The valve disc is formed by applying hydraulic pressure to the upper face of a flat plate resting on a seat similar to the annular wall 21 of the seat member 15. The seat member 15 has an external flange 20 which is held against a shoulder 13 in the housing 10 by a guide member 25 having a central stop-member 27 and guideribs 26 fitting against a shoulder 18. The lower surface of the stop-member 27 is shaped to match the face 31 of the disc 22 and has a cavity 30 which acts as a buffer chamber. The valve disc is loaded by a spring 33 centred by a ' shoulder 34. The guide member 25 has outlet apertures 35 and is held in place by a split-ring 24. Four valves as described above are shown arranged in a circular housing for use as compressor intake valves.
