Abstract
707,168. Pressure regulating valves. SLINGSBY, W., and BALDWIN, M. G. July 1, 1952 [July 31, 1951], No. 18102/51. Class 135 A pressure regulating valve operated by a flexible bellows 8 comprises a base portion 10 with inlet and outlet passages 3, 4 and a casing 9 detachably secured to the base portion, e.g. by screwing, the bellows being arranged longitudinally within the casing with its open end towards the base portion so that its interior communicates with the valve passages 3, 4 through a gland nut 15 which clamps the open end of the bellows to a gland ring 14. The bellows may be adjustably loaded by spring means but as shown is loaded by weights 21 placed on a flanged bell 20. The bellows 8 is centralized by a flat flexible spiral 23 secured to the head 12 of the bellows by nuts 24 and clamped peripherally between the casing 9 and a cap 11. The gland ring 14 is clamped between the casing 9 and the base portion 10. The complementary faces of the ring 14 and the nut 15 are made conical to receive the flared end 13 of the bellows. The head of the bellows is attached to a stem 18 carrying a semi-spherical valve member 17 engaging a seat 19. The opening movement of the valve is limited by a shoulder 25 or by a screwed cap or plug 6.
