Abstract
835,228. Supply systems depending on two or more machines; parallel running of alternators. LISTER & CO. Ltd., R. A. July 19, 1956 [July 19, 1955], No. 20921/55. Class 38 (4). In an A.C. generating plant wherein a plurality of similar self-excited alternator sets each having a common A.C./D.C. field system are arranged to be connected in parallel, the field windings are arranged to be connectible to the D.C. armature winding of another machine to maintain the alternators in phase. In the Figure, the auxiliary field windings 24 of alternators 20-22 are connected in series when the machines are operating in parallel, but are short-circuited when any machine is shut down, by means of bridging switches S1-S3. In another embodiment, in which each machine has only one field winding, these windings are similarly connected in series. In a further arrangement whereby each machine has main and auxiliary windings connected to separate brushes on the armature, where there are only two machines, the auxiliary windings are each connected by means of a switch to the corresponding brushes of the other machine.
