Apparatus for use in a locomotive for supplying a number of D.C. traction motors and a D.C. heating circuit, comprises an alternator having a plurality of secondary windings 3, 4, all operating in the same flux, each supplying one or more polyphase rectifier bridges 5, 6, each of which feeds a motor M1 M2, and the outputs of the bridges being connected in series to provide the D.C. heating supply.
