Abstract
800,485. A.C. Generators; supply systems depending on two or more sources. CONTELL, F. Aug. 8, 1956, No. 24252/56. Classes 35, 38 (2) and 38 (4). Alternating current is generated by a combination of a polyphase synchronous generator SG cascaded with one or more induction machines RT which generator and machines are fixed to either a common shaft or individual shafts to be driven by a single or respective prime movers and the generator SG has an armature winding A so connected to the primary member winding of the or the first induction machine RT that it sets up a rotating field of frequency C 2 in the latter that is in a direction opposite to that of the machines motoring direction of rotation whereby the secondary member of the machine provides an output of frequency C 1 higher than C 2 ; the invention provides that under normal operating conditions the impedances of the generator armature winding A and the induction machine primary member winding are equal or approximately equal. The primary and secondary members of each induction machine RT may be either the rotor E and stator S respectively as shown, or vice versa.
