994,108. Dynamo-electric machines. MACFARLANE ENGINEERING CO. Ltd., and W. I. MACFARLANE. Feb. 6, 1964 [Feb. 22, 1963], No. 7147/63. Heading H2A. In a motor-generator set for a stand-by unit the A.C. motor 10 which is normally connected to the mains, is mounted so that its outer member 16 rotates and acts as a flywheel. The generator 11 has an axial projection 17 on which the motor stator 13 is fixed and the rotor is carried by bearings 19. The machines are coupled via generator shaft 21 and a flexible coupling 20. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the outer member of the generator, and if desired, its exciter, also rotate to further increase the inertia.
