Abstract

856,703. Control of A.C. motors. ALEGEMENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE N.V. Feb. 13, 1959 [March 14, 1958], No. 5161/59. Addition to 809,374. Class 38 (3). Two polyphase induction motors 1, 1<SP>1</SP> are operated in mutual synchronism by connecting their rotors to a slip frequency network 3, to which is also connected a frequency changer 5 mechanically coupled to the motor 1 and to a variable-speed A.C. commutator motor 9. The speed of the motors 1, 1<SP>1</SP> is regulated by adjusting the speed of the motor 9. A capacitor 11 affords power factor correction. In another arrangement, the frequency changer is coupled to an asynchronous motor having its rotor connected to the slip frequency network and its stator to the supply network 2. The shaft of the A.C. commutator motor is then coupled to one of the driving motors 1, 1<SP>1</SP> In a further embodiment, the frequency changer has its output connected to an asynchronous motor which is coupled to one of the driving motors through a variable-ratio transmission. Frequency converters may be connected in series in the slipfrequency network so that the driving motors may be operated at fixed speed-ratios. The shaft of the frequency changer 5 may be coupled to a synchronizing machine having its rotor connected to the slip frequency network and its stator to the supply network, as well as being coupled to the machine 9.
