Abstract
953,911. Generators with movable core parts; phase shifting. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 20,1960 [April 27, 1959], No. 14273/59. Headings H2A and H2F. An electric pulse generator comprises a pair of electrically connected alternators on the same shaft, and means for periodically providing a limited, angular displacement of at least one of the stators with respect to its rotor to change the relative phases of the two generator voltages to produce a desired net output. As shown, mutual angular displacement of the stators 12, 13 is produced by means of a gear-driven cam 24 and cam follower 23 operating a lever 15, pivoted at 16, and engaging lugs 18 and 19 on the stators. In a modification, the stator and rotor slots are oppositely skewed in the two machines so that relative axial movement between the stator and rotor cores varies the phase of the output voltages (Figure accompanying Complete Specification, not shown). In another form, the rotors are mounted through skewed splines on a common shaft such that axial movement of the rotor on the shaft results in relative angular movement between the rotors and causes a phase change in the voltages. The stators may be combined into a single pack.
