Abstract
922,009. Change-pole machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 18, 1960 [Dec. 9, 1959; Jan. 18, 1960], Nos. 41904/59 and 1769/60. Class 35. A change-pole induction motor or generator operates by reconnecting parts of each phase winding in series or parallel with another phase winding in cyclic order without reversal of polarity to modify the harmonic pattern of the M.M.F. and so obtain a change in effective polenumber. In the form shown, star-connected phase windings A, B, C, are each divided into two sections, viz. 2 and 3, 4 and 5, 6 and 7, which are normally connected in series. To modify the effective pole-number, the sections are re-connected by switch 9, viz. 2 and 7, 6 and 5, 4 and 3, also in series. A delta-connected modification, a modification in which the switch changes connection from star to delta, and a star-connected arrangement involving three sections, are also described (Figs. 2, 3, 4, not shown). The reconnection may be applied to the rotor winding.
