Abstract
899,472. Running generators in series. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 7, 1959 [Jan. 10, 1958], No. 1043/58. Class 38 (4). In a circuit in which two or more D.C. generators G1, G2 are connected in series at least one of them, G1, having a series field winding F1 and a short circuiting switch S1 a main field winding MF1 is arranged to be fed normally from a main D.C. source T1, T2, or from another D.C. source DCS through a changeover switch SU1A and a resistor R prior to the short circuiting of the generator, the other source being of such value that the combined effect of the main and series field windings reduces the armature voltage to a low value. Disconnecting switches SU1, SU1<SP>1</SP> are provided in the armature circuit. The other source may be fed from the armature circuit by means of a resistor RA. The main D.C. source T1, T2 may be an exciter machine.
