609,294. Dynamo-electric machines. TUSTIN, A., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 8, 1941, Nos. 16261/40 and 2863/42. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVIII] An alternator, Fig. 3, designed to supply A.C. for energizing a selsyn system and also to convert variable D.C. control current into corresponding variable A.C. comprises a toothed rotor 54, the axis being vertical, and a stator comprising a yoke 51 carrying two polepieces 52, 53. A main constant D.C. energizing winding produces flux in two parallel paths through the yoke portion 51 and the two polepieces whereby an output is obtained in winding 56 which is used to energize the selsyn system. There is, however, no output due to winding 55 in the output windings 57, 58 wound in opposing relationship. A further energizing winding 61 is supplied with variable D.C. from generators 12, 13 and gives rise to flux over the two polepieces in series, thereby providing a variable output in windings 57, 58, but having substantially no effect on the constant A.C. output from winding 56.
