Abstract

1,182,950. Control of A.C. motors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 24 Oct., 1968 [31 Oct., 1967], No. 49488/67. Heading H2J. The primary winding 2 of a wound rotor induction motor is connected directly to an A.C. supply 3 while the secondary, which comprises a plurality of polyphase windings 4 . . . 7, is connected through rectifiers 8 . . . 11 and switching means to an inverter 16 by which slip energy is fed back to the supply. As shown, the switching means (switches or thyristors) provides for series/parallel connection of the secondary windings and rectifiers. 8, 9 and 10, 11 are permanently in series; with switch 23 open these pairs are in parallel with each other through diodes 18, 20 but with 23 closed all the rectifiers are in series. The overall impedance of the secondary circuit may be varied by a resistor 21 shunted by switching means 22. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown), the windings and rectifiers are permanently in series but the number in use is varied in three stages by the switching means. The secondary windings and rectifiers are shown on the rotor, connected to slip rings 12. . . 15 but they could be on the stator with the primary 2 on the rotor, and the static inverter shown may be replaced by a motor-generator set
