Abstract

834,869. Variable-speed gear; clutches. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A.G. March 28, 1958, No. 10135/58. Class 80 (2). A two-speed and reverse gear of the constant mesh type has wheels 3, 4 loosely mounted on an output shaft 2 and selectively clutchable to a wheel 10, which is keyed on the output shaft, by means of an internally splined shift sleeve 15 axially slidable on a reduced diameter extension of the wheel 10. The shift sleeve has splined extensions 16 passing through apertures in the wheel 10 so that on movement of the sleeve to the left teeth 21 on wheel 3 are engaged and on movement to the right teeth 22 of wheel 4. Forward drive from an input shaft 5 thus occurs through wheels 7, 3 or 8, 4. For reverse drive, wheels 28, 26 which are loosely mounted on a shaft 25 and are in constant mesh with wheels 8, 10 respectively, are clutched together by pins 30 carried by a shift sleeve 29.
