Abstract

644,179. Change-speed gear. STURMEYARGHER GEARS, Ltd., and BROWN. W. April 26, 1948, No. 11353. [Class 80(ii)] In a two, three or more speed cycle hub gear of the kind having a fixed sun 2 and a dog-toothed selector-member 11, slidable axially in a slotted driving member 16 to connect the latter either with dog teeth 3a on an axially-immovable planet carrier 3, to overdrive a driven ring-gear 6, or with engageable elements carried by the driven ring-gear for direct-drive, the axial length of the selector dog-teeth 11 exceeds the gap between the respective engaging elements so that there is no neutral position during a shift, and the engageable elements on the ring-gear are one-way pawls 7 pivoted on axial pins 8, the confronting end-faces of either the selector dogs 11 (as shown) or of the pawls 7 being chamfered to permit butting engagement in the axial direction.
