943,899. Change speed gear. JOHN DEERELANZ A.G. April 21, 1960 [April 21, 1959], No. 14034/60. Heading F2D. A change speed gear for a tractor which provides ten forward ratios and three reverse ratios comprises two countershafts 5, 6 parallel with aligned input and output shafts 3, 4, the former of which drives, through a clutch 14, a hollow shaft 60 which is freely rotatable on the first countershaft 5 and drives through gears 61. 62 the second countershaft 6. For the three lowest ratios (creeper speeds) an axially slidable gear 64 carried by the shaft 60 is moved into mesh with a gear 10 which drives through a hollow shaft 15 freely rotatable on the output shaft 4 and gears 11, 12 the first countershaft 5 which carries freely mounted gears 26, 27 in permanent mesh with gears 28, 29 fast on the output shaft. The three ratios in this and subsequent (to be described) groups are provided by a double dog-clutch 22 which selectively connects the gears 27, 26 to the countershaft 5 for first and second ratios respectively whilst for third ratio a double-dog clutch 20 connects the shaft 15 to the output shaft 4. For fourth to sixth ratios (field speeds), with the gear 64 in its neutral position, an axially slidable gear 66 carried by the second countershaft 6 is moved into mesh with the gear 12 fast on the first countershaft 5 and the three ratios in this group are provided as above described. For seventh to ninth ratios (road speeds) the gear 66 is moved to its neutral position and the gear 64 dog-clutched at 63 to the countershaft 5. For direct drive the input and output shafts 3, 4 are clutched together by the dog-clutch 20. For the three reverse ratios the gear 64 is moved to its neutral position and the gear 66 is meshed with the gear 10 the three ratios being provided as above described. A pin 67 fast with the gear 66 prevents engagement of the clutch 20 during reverse.
