Change-mesh change-speed and reverse gear. ing for tractors &c. comprises driving and driven shafts 10, 14, a double gear 24, 25 rotatable on the driving shaft, and a sleeve 30 rotatable on the driven shaft and carrying gears 33... 35. A gear 26 can be slidden leftwards on the driving shaft 10 into clutched engagement with the gear 24 or rightwards into meshing engagement with the gear 34. A gear 36 on the driven shaft 14 can be slidden into meshing engagement with the gear 25 or into clutched engagement with the gear 32. The gear 35 can be slidden into meshing engagement with a gear 27 fast on the driving shaft 10, or into meshing engagement with a reverse idler 46 in turn meshing a gear 45 fast on the driving shaft. With the gear 36 clutched to the gear 32, two alternative forward ratios are obtained by sliding the gear 26 leftwards to clutch it to the gear 24 and rightwards into mesh with the gear 34. A further forward ratio is obtained by sliding the gear 35 leftwards into mesh with the gear 27, and reverse is obtained by sliding the gear 35 rightwards into mesh with the reverse idler 46. To obtain a second series of three forward and one reverse ratio, the gear 36 is slidden leftwards to declutch it from the gear 32 and move it into mesh with the gear 25. The gears 26 and 35 are then slidden as before. As a modification, an additional forward ratio may be obtained by providing an extra gear fast on the driving shaft 10 for engagement by a further slidable gear on the sleeve 30.
