Class 120(3) A device for applying travellers to the rings of spinning &c. machines, of the kind in which travellers stored in a row and fed forwad by a spring are pressed singly on to a ring by a spring-influenced lever, is characterized by the provision firstly of two arms 1, 2, Fig. 3, pivoted to one another at 3 and normally kept apart by a spring 5, one of which is provided with a recess 6 to be fitted over the ring and the other with a presser member 19 for forcing the runners on to the ring, and secondly of a tubular storage 8 enclosing a supply of runners so that their openings will face the ring when the recess is fitted over the ring and arranged transversely of the plane of the arms and opening adjacent the recess. The travellers are held on a rod 11 in a tube 10 by a fin 12 engaging the gap between their ends on the rod is mounted a slidable piston 14 urged against the travellers by a spring 17, the other end of which engages a second piston having a lug which can be rotated to engage one of a series of notches in a slot in the tube 10, so as to adjust the tension of the spring according to the number of travellers in the storage. The travellers are thus urged against a piston 24 arranged on the opposite side of the recess 6 to slide on a rod 26 under the influence of a spring 28, the tension in which is adjustable. Owing to the relative strengths of the springs 17, 28, the piston 24 cannot be forced back by the travellers 9 and it takes up a position against the member 19 so that the latter is in line with the foremost traveller. Also the piston is positioned by a pin and slot so that the guide 29 is in line with the fin 12 and the gap in the stored travellers. With the arms in the open position, the device is applied to the ring so that the recess 6 fits over the flange 7<SP>1</SP> with the gap in the foremost traveller and the guide 29 opposite the flange. The arms are gripped together so that the pressermember 19 moves the foremost traveller on to the flange, the piston 23 being displaced as the traveller moves over an inclined part of the guide 29. The device is then tilted about the -edge of the ring so that the traveller is sprung over the flange. The arms consist of members of U-section providing a seating for the ends of the spring 9 and which can fit one within the other. The stored travellers may be lacquered together.
