Abstract

828,859. Gas torches. BERNZ CO. Inc., O. March 7, 1957 [Nov. 5, 1956], No. 7591/57. Class 75(1) [Also in Group XXIX] A blow torch comprises a needle valve 5 screwed into a bushing 18 mounted for axial movement within the valve housing and prevented from rotating by a pin 20, a hand knob 24 being provided for screwing the valve between a shut off and an open position and a pivoted lever 27 being provided for moving the bushing 18, and hence the valve, against the action of a spring 23 towards the open position of the valve. In operation the valve is set by the hand knob 24 to provide a pilot flame and the pivoted lever is used to open the valve further to provide an operational flame. The lever 27 is pivoted to a pin 28 on the valve housing and has a forked end 30 engaging a sleeve 26 loosely mounted on the valve stem between the hand knob 24 and the housing. The housing has a threaded recess 2 adapted to be screwed on to a portable cylinder containing L.P. gas and a stem 3 on the housing is adapted to open a closure valve in the cylinder. The torch head has radial air inlets 9 and the combustible mixture discharge through an axial nozzle 10, an annular ring of nozzles 11 and radial outlets 13 into a cylindrical sleeve 12.
