Abstract

819,221. Oil burners. SWINNEY BROS. Ltd. Jan. 10, 1958 [Jan. 10, 1957], No. 973/57. Class 75(1) In an oil burner with the oil atomized by air or steam axial movement of the oil tube 2 effects a proportionate control of the oil discharge through the end orifice of the oil tube and of the two air discharges one through an inner nozzle 3 surrounding and fixed to the oil tube 2 to move therewith the other through the annular space between the so-movable inner nozzle 3 and an outer fixed nozzle 5. The oil supply is controlled by a V- notch 21 on a stem 20 of the oil tube 2 co-operating with a valve-seating member 23 which can be screwed in or out in its housing 18 to vary the fuel/air ratio and shows its value on an indicator scale 26. The inner nozzle 3 with vanes 4 fixed to the oil tube 2 has apertures 7 in its rear end which are permanetly open and peripheral apertures 8 which are variably masked, as the inner nozzle 3 is moved axially backwards or forwards by a sleeve 9 fixed to the outer fixed nozzle 5 by vanes 6. The axial movement of the oil tube is effected by a handle 15 which rotates a sleeve 10 having a helical slot to act upon a pin 12 upstanding from the oil tube 2 which is itself prevented from rotating by a key piece 17 engaging a slot in a covering and retaining disc 14 for the helically slotted sleeve 10.
