Abstract

757,711. Welding by fusion. DEWRANCE & CO., Ltd. May 27, 1954 [May 27, 1953], No. 14765/63. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIX] An injector unit for injecting metal powder into the gas stream of a flame welding or coating torch is insertable between the nozzle and the body containing the gas-control valves of a standard flame torch and houses a readily removable injector nozzle assembly which may be one of a set of interchangeable injector nozzle assemblies of different sizes to suit various sizes of flame nozzle and types of work. The injector unit is connected to the nozzle 141 and body 1 of a standard torch by union nuts 139, 39 respectively and is provided with a central bore 59 through which is passed a mixture of oxygen and acetylene. A hopper 155 carried by the injector body 51 has a lid 163 provided with an air vent 165. Flow of the powder from the hopper 155 to a passage 65 in the injector body is controlled by a rotary valve 175 having apertures 181 of different sizes and located in any of its operative positions by a spring-loaded detent 193. Additional air may pass through the valve 175 to the passage 65 under the control of a valve 223. The replaceable injector nozzle assembly consists of a pair of complementary interconnected members 81, 83, between which is formed a suction chamber 105. The assembly fits within a casing 77 connected by a union nut 135 to the injector body 51 and the member 81 has recesses 125, 133 co-operating with pins 119, 117 threaded into the injector body 51. The pin 119 has a passage communicating between the passage 65 and the suction chamber 105. Specification 707,228 is referred to.
