Abstract
996,663. Spray-producers. WALL COLMONOY CORPORATION. Oct. 24, 1963 [Dec. 28, 1962], No. 41980/63. Heading B2F. A fusible metal torch comprises a body member 7 to which is detachably connected a tip member 39 and a torch butt 4. The latter is so connected through a coupling 13 which is connected to the body member through a mixer 11 threadedly engaged in a bore 27 disposed in the member. The bore houses a nozzle 25 having an orifice 29, and oxyacetylene from a suitably pressurized fuel system passes from the mixer 11, through the nozzle 25, through an extension 35 welded to the body member 7, through a coupling nut 37, by which the tip member 39 is joined to the member 7, and thence through the member 35 itself to issue, where ignited, in a flame 43. Valve knobs 5 are provided on the butt for adjusting and controlling the flow of oxygen and acetylene through the butt into the mixer 11. The nozzle 25 opens into a chamber 33 in the member 7 this chamber being in communication wtih a fusible powder container 55 through vertical and horizontal passageways 49 and 51. The communicating orifice between the latter passageway and the lower cavity 53 of the container 55 is normally closed by a stretched resilient seal member 71, the stretching being effected by a plunger 65 slidable in a bore 67 in the member 7. The plunger is partly withdrawn-against a spring 75-from the interior of the seal 71 by actuation of a handoperated lever mechanism 83, 85, such withdrawal allowing powdered particles from the container 55 to pass to the chamber 33 through the passageways 51 and 49 from whence they are entrained by the fuel gas issuing from the nozzle orifice 29. The seal is stretched by the plunger 65 such that on plunger withdrawal the seal flange 63 still remains tightly against the inner end of the bore 67 to prevent leakage of particles into the bore from the container. Through the various threaded interconnections of the torch, the nozzle and tip member may be quickly changed for a wide variety of applications.
