Abstract

1,213,888. Welding by fusion. BERK Ltd. 26 March, 1969 [3 April, 1968], No. 15974/68. Heading B3R. In a powder weld flame spray gun, e.g. for depositing and fusing hard facing alloy on a substrate, a combustible gas (e.g. acetylene) and a combustion supporting gas (e.g. oxygen) flow through respective conduits 2, 3 into a mixing chamber 4 which communicates with an outlet nozzle (not shown) through a chamber 5, powder from a feed conduit 7 is drawn, by Venturi effect, into said chamber 5 for discharge through the outlet nozzle, and to stop the throughput of powder a by-pass needle valve 9, 10 is opened by release of a spring-loaded trigger 11 to admit air into the chamber 5 to break the Venturi effect. The needle valve may be adjusted from its fully closed, maximum powder, position by a screw 12 which may be (i) pre-set so that on complete trigger depression there is only partial, predetermined, closure of the valve with a correspondingly reduced powder throughput, or (ii) adjusted for fine regulation of powder throughput during gun operation, with the trigger held completely depressed. Powder may be supplied from an underslung suction powder container or, as shown, a gravity feed hopper 6. An air bleed passage 8 prevents the conduit 7 becoming blocked with powder.
