Abstract

1,133,516. Spray-producers. GRAY CO. Inc. 16 Sept., 1966 [17 Sept., 1965], No. 41567/66. Heading B2F. A gun suitable for hydrostatically spraying paint comprises a paint discharge nozzle assembly 16, the outlet of which is controlled by a needle valve (72), fig. 4 (not shown) on a stem 74, and an air discharge nozzle 178 adapted to supply a dusting &c. air blast to the workpiece prior to painting when a valve 180 is opened by a push button 182, the arrangement being such that the simultaneous emission of air and paint is not possible. Retraction of a trigger 14 moves a valve assembly 96 to the right and allows air .from an inlet pipe 152 to reach a chamber (82), fig. 3 (not shown) and act on a piston head unit 104, 106, 108 secured to the stem 74 whereby the valve (72) is withdrawn from its seat and paint supplied through a conduit 44 under pressure is discharged. When the trigger is released the chamber (82) is exhausted to the atmosphere through the valve assembly 96 and a passage 148. The needle valve (72) is biased into the closed position by a spring 113. With the trigger in the inoperative position a stud 169 on the assembly 96 allows depression of the button 182 and discharge of air from the nozzle 178. The nozzle assembly 16 contains a diffuser insert (36) fig. 4 (not shown) having an elliptically shaped orifice. The gun may be mounted on a hook 18 on the stock 10. A trigger safety stop 91. prevents actuation of the trigger while the spray tip is being changed &c.
