Abstract
597,541. Blow-pipe burners. BRITISH OXYGEN CO., Ltd., and GODFREY, R. C. Aug. 22, 1945, No. 21470. [Class 75 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a gas torch for metal severing or welding operations, a valve for inhibiting or permitting gas flow is movable manually into and out of sealing engagement with its seating and, when in the flow-permitting position is at least for the greater part out of the gas flow path. In the torch shown, the cutting oxygen stream through the valve chest 22 having axially aligned supply and delivery tubes 20, 21 is controlled by turning a valve element 28 by a member 35 from a position in which it engages a seating 27 to a position wholly out of the path of the oxygen stream, The valve element 28 may be of rubber or a yielding synthetic resin such as polythene and is bolted to a bridge-piece 31 formed integrally with annular elements 29, 30 rotatable in the chest bore 26. The valve-operating spindle 33 is made gastight by packing 41 and a washer 42 and the valve is held against a shoulder 39 in the bore 26 by a spring 38 arranged between a screw 37 and a sealing disc 40.
